YDU Families Learn Pickleball
Pickleball is one of America’s fastest growing sports, and YDU families joined the trend last weekend.
Chester’s Memorial Park tennis courts have been lined to also accommodate pickleball. Despite a light misty rain, a group assembled there on Saturday to take pickleball lessons from Loomis Racquet Academy representatives.
“Pickleball is a cross between tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, and it has been growing in popularity over the last couple of years because everyone, from kids of all ages to older adults, can play it,” according to Pickleball University.
Lessons for participants of all ages were led by Jeremy Loomis, founder of the Academy and head women’s tennis coach at Swarthmore College. He remarked, ”I’m glad we were able to have some fun with the people that braved the weather. Looking forward to doing it again!”
After lessons and a close match between the most talented beginners, everyone enjoyed a lunch of pizza and fruit together.
Chester mom Snownia commented, “We are grateful for all of these opportunities because we always have fun and you introduce our kids to different activities that they would not have been able to do.”
Councilman Stefan Roots brought his family out for the fun and wrote about the event in his blog, Chester Matters.
