Run/Walk Club Achieves Spring Season Goals

Eddystone’s Run/Walk Club, which earned a trophy competing at a fall event, just completed its spring season with a successful showing at Laura's Children Foundation’s “1 Mile and More” event at Naylor’s Run Park in Upper Darby.

Thirty-one children and ten adults, led by Eddystone Elementary School teacher and YDU Site Director Crystal Brooks, represented Youth Development United at the final event.

“The friendliness of the event staff, the pre-event activities including a group warm-up, and the post-run/walk refreshments really made us feel welcome and excited about participating,” remarked Crystal. “It was a beautiful park and a perfect length for our trained group to show our run/walk endurance.”

The Eddystone Run/Walk Club consists of 45 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, and meets every Friday morning of an eight week fall season.

Boeing generously covered the cost of the bus to and from the Naylor’s Run Park event, while other expenses including pizza and fresh fruit that greeted the bus as it returned to Eddystone were paid for through a grant from The Foundation for Delaware County.

“It was a pleasure to have the children and families up and active in the community as they completed ‘LCF’s 1 Mile and More’ 2.5K trail. Our event was a fundraiser for our Healthy Home Initiative project which has the goal to provide families with the foundational tools needed towards a healthier lifestyle,” explained Laura Bien-Aime of Laura’s Children Foundation.

The Eddystone Run/Walk Club will pick back up again in the Fall of 2023.
