Free Self Defense Classes and More Through Summer Partnerships

Each summer, Youth Development United enjoys partnerships with other community organizations in order to engage the community in worthwhile programming that promotes healthy choices.

This summer, a new partnership has formed with the CAAT Center, a wonderful Overtown venue where Youth Development United is currently hosting self defense classes each Saturday at 2:30pm through August. The Chester Cultural Arts and Technology Center’s (CAAT) mission is to empower and equip residents of Chester, PA and the surrounding areas by providing Cultural Arts and Technological resources to eradicate poverty.

According to CAAT Center President and CEO Tara Jones, “Our partnership with Youth Development United is a reflection of our dedication to nurturing a resilient and empowered community. These self-defense classes go beyond physical training—they instill confidence, awareness, and discipline. We are honored to collaborate on such a vital initiative and look forward to seeing the positive changes it brings to our community.”

Classes are being taught by the inspiring Eduardo Maisonet of The School of Life Defense. After the first session, Ed commented, “It went really well. The kids were engaging and super smart. I look forward to next week.”

In addition to the self defense classes, YDU is currently hosting summer soccer at Chester Apartments’ Better Tomorrows, Delco Housing Authority’s Fairgrounds Community and Chester Charter Scholars Academy and STEM brain breaks at Eddystone’s summer youth program.

Later this summer, YDU will host a basketball/science/soccer camp at the FiDonce fitness facility and a soccer/nature camp at Main Street Elementary in collaboration with Delaware County’s 4-H Club.

YDU programming is made possible thanks to grants from The Foundation for Delaware County, DCIGRA, CCRES and other generous organizations and individuals. If you have hobbies or other resources you’d like to share with the beautiful children of Greater Chester, please click here.
