Pumpkins, Basketballs and Fun on a Day Off!
Although Chester Upland School District was closed today, many kids took advantage of the beautiful weather to fill their day off with active learning.
Families gathered at the beautiful Eyre Park for our second “Day Off” event. Read about the first one here!
The day was filled with many activities, including a land fishing game, soccer, a variety of STEM activities on a nature walk led by a former Widener professor, and a basketball and care package giveaway. The evening concluded with a delicious dinner of pizza and fresh fruit, with leftovers for many to bring home.
We want to extend gratitude to:
Barron Lacy and the 9th Street Youth & Community Center, for sharing their facility and being such welcoming and helpul hosts
Professor Nadine McHenry, for enriching young minds even on their day off from school
Todd Price, for sharing his time, expertise and fishing gear
Volunteers Mary and Leah, for their time and friendly efforts working with the children
Brit Haseltine, who helped lead soccer activities
Eric of Fidonce Player Development and Danielle of Leveling the Playing Field, for the generous donation of basketballs
Teachers’ Teammates, who donated adorable Halloween placemats for people to eat on and bring home as holiday decorations
Ms. Yolanda Jackson, who delivered the placemats and warm hugs to interested participants
Just Pizza and Swarthmore Co-Op, who supplied much-appreciated food items and pumpkins at cost to our organization
Care package items (which included groceries, toiletries and clothing) and funding support were graciously donated by The Bear Den from Cub Scout Pack 240 in Springfield, the Delaware County Interactive Gaming Revenue Authority and other generous parties.
We would not have been able to have such a successful event without this help. Learn more about how you can help for future events at https://www.youthdevunited.org/donate
