100% of Participants Gained Social Skills, Says Latest Survey

Youth Development United (YDU) is delighted to announce the results of its 2023-24 program survey.

The survey is intended to measure emotional, social, and behavioral impact on participants and capture other learnings about the value and impact of Youth Development United activities. This is just one of many methods the organization uses to collect feedback and refine its strategy for serving the community.

Parents and guardians were asked a variety of questions, and here are some of their answers:

100% indicated “My child gained social skills (patience, sharing, positively interacting with others) by attending Youth Development United events.

82% reported “My child tried and enjoyed healthy foods at YDU events.”

74% shared “My children talk excitedly about a YDU event that is coming up.”

55% indicated, “After attending a YDU event, my family talks about the experience they had.”

64% of respondents are grateful that their children can meet and make friends at the events.

55% indicated “Our household would struggle somewhat if YDU stopped providing free food and other care package items.”

74% agreed ”YDU events play an important role in helping my children learn and experience healthy choices.”

In response to open-ended questions, parents and guardians shared the following sentiments:

‘We are grateful for all the great things they offer and it helps us be able to be with family even when we can't afford it.”

“My kids love the events and we're able to have family time and enjoy ourselves.”

“My family are always excited to know they are going to an YDU event.”

“The program has grown in a great way over the years.”

“We appreciate the events and would like to keep coming.”

“Jacob loves the inclusion of the families and the students he sees at multiple events.”

“The fun they have with their friends there is really special.”

Asked what would be missed if YDU went away, write-in responses included:

  • spending time outside with the family

  • meeting new people

  • experiencing new things

  • being around like minded people (positive )

  • a lot of activities are free or no cost to us and that’s a big help

Earlier this year, the organization collected equally positive feedback about the impact of its Soccer for Success program. Survey results, coach feedback and commentary from our school district partners can be found here.
