STEM Career Day Inspires YDU Youth
This past Saturday, Youth Development United was thrilled to host STEM Career Day at Widener University, marking the start of a series of Career Discovery Days in 2025. Children and families from Chester and beyond gathered for an exciting day of hands-on learning and career discovery, guided by current and retired Widener professors.
Upon arrival, each child was paired with a Widener graduate student from the College of Health and Human Services or Health Sciences, ready to dive into a fun-filled day of exploration. The event featured four engaging stations - including art, games, and robots- where participants explored careers in Math, Science, Biology, and Engineering, learning from top experts in their fields.
Midway through the day, attendees enjoyed a break with snacks and hula hoop activities before returning to more creative and interactive learning. The day ended on a high note with a surprise visit from Donye Price, the Chester Fire Department and their ladder truck. Afterward, everyone gathered to share a delicious meal in the Widener Dining Hall and received a free basketball provided by Leveling the Playing Field!
A heartfelt thank-you goes to Mr. Chris Hallahan (Engineering), Dr. Bruce Grant (Biology), Dr. Andrew Owens (Math), and Professor Nadine McHenry (Science Education) for their time and dedication. Special thanks also go to the Widener students, Donye Price, and the Chester Fire Department for making the day truly memorable.
Enjoy this note from Rebekah Tiffany, whose grandson Jacob and his friend Carter attended: '“Jacob and Carter had a great time. I rolled them both out of my car and into their respective houses. They were too full to walk! They enjoyed the presentations and are looking forward to the next two.”
