Partnership with CAAT Center Continues

This summer’s partnership with the CAAT Center was too good to end! This weekend, Youth Development United restarted weekly its popular self-defense classes and added an hour of STEM fun to the regular Saturday activity lineup.

“We are off to a great start!” exclaimed Tara Jones, President and CEO of the CAAT Center.

Eduardo Maisonet, who has been teaching the Krav Maga style of self-defense with Youth Development United since January 2024, concurred. “The engagement level of the kids was awesome.”

After an hour of training with Coach Ed, participants moved into a unique and entertaining STEM session led by Nadine McHenry, the recently retired Director of Widener’s Science Teaching Center. She inspired curiosity about movement of air and the concept of lift with a Bernoulli Effect experiment that involved the kids blowing into spools to try to levitate business cards. Afterward, Nadine commented, “It was a great day at CAAT! Lots of fun and learning for all.”

The program continues for eight more Saturdays in the early fall. To help support this and other opportunities, please consider donating time or money to Youth Development United.
