YDU Enjoys Trees and Trails on Arbor Day
Youth Development United is enthusiastic about facilitating outdoor exploration for the families it serves. Close relationships with The Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College and professors from Widener University enrich these experiences and teach the children what it is like to have careers in environmental science.
This weekend, Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College hosted YDU at an Arbor Day celebration, where families participated in a scavenger hunt, learned all about trees and were invited to choose a sapling to take home.
Thanks to generous supporters, the YDU group enjoyed lunch at Swarthmore’s dining hall. Then, we moved on for further exploration with Widener University professors Nadine McHenry and Bruce Grant.
In the unique outdoor classroom setting known as the Pinetum, the accomplished, friendly professors taught hands-on lessons about the natural process of decomposition. Children and adults alike enjoyed the day tremendously; families were encouraged to return to this lovely spot which is always open and accessible to all.
